Agratas and TSL inspire next generation of talent during Somerset primary school visit

Pupils at a primary school near our UK battery manufacturing facility in Somerset enjoyed an interactive session exploring electric vehicles, cell production and careers in sustainability and construction.

The visit to Willowdown Primary School on 25 September introduced pupils to the Agratas battery manufacturing facility being built just outside Bridgwater by construction and engineering company TSL. The session highlighted how the facility will create hundreds of jobs as it supports the transition to electric vehicles and a more sustainable future.

Through presentations and activities, students learned about the history of electric vehicles, how battery cells are made, life on a modern construction site and the wide range of career opportunities at a manufacturing facility and in delivering major infrastructure projects.

Alex Cameron, our Community Engagement Manager, said:
“It was fantastic to spend time with the pupils at Willowdown Primary School and share the story of the Agratas project. The children asked thoughtful questions which showed how they have been learning about the project in class. I hope the visit helped inspire some of the engineers, scientists and environmental specialists of tomorrow.”

TSL Sustainability Co-ordinators El White and Jack Loriot also set pupils a sustainability challenge, encouraging them to develop creative solutions to real-world issues faced on construction sites, including protecting wildlife, reducing waste, lowering energy use and minimising noise for neighbours. The challenge winners will get to visit the Agratas site later this year.

El White, Sustainability Coordinator at TSL, said:
“It was great to see how curious and engaged the pupils were throughout the session. Sustainability on a construction project is all about problem solving, so we’re looking forward to seeing the creative solutions they come up with!”

The visit forms part of the ongoing commitment by Agratas and TSL to engage with local schools and inspire the next generation of talent across Somerset.

Willowdown teacher Louis Pope added:
“We’re grateful to Agratas and TSL for taking the time to visit our school and share their knowledge and experience with our pupils. The session brought STEM subjects to life in a way that was engaging, relevant and inspiring. Our students were fascinated by the scale of the project being built on their doorstep and really enjoyed learning about sustainability, electric vehicles and the many careers involved.”
