Analysis highlights economic impact of Agratas' UK battery manufacturing investment

Two reports published by Agratas showcase the significant economic, employment and supply chain benefits that our Somerset battery manufacturing facility is expected to deliver, both nationally and across the South West.

The in-depth analysis outlines the scale of the opportunity being created through the development of one of the UK's largest battery manufacturing facilities, highlighting its role in supporting economic growth, creating skilled jobs and strengthening the country's advanced manufacturing capabilities.

National report highlights

The new national economic impact report sets out the wider contribution the facility is expected to make to the UK economy and industrial sector.

Key findings include:

  • Around £43 billion in Gross Value Added (GVA) expected to be generated over 25 years through construction and operations.
  • £3.2 billion in economic value expected from Building One alone by 2030.
  • Around 4,600 direct advanced manufacturing jobs planned across the full site.
  • Almost 20,000 jobs supported across the UK, including direct, indirect and induced roles (jobs supported from spending by employees).
  • Around 11,100 jobs supported during the peak construction year of Building One.
  • Nearly 300 apprenticeships planned from the start of production through the early 2030s.

Regional report highlights

The updated regional report, originally published in September 2025, demonstrates the transformational impact the facility is expected to have on Somerset and the South West region.

Key findings include:

  • More than £700 million in economic value generated annually across the South West.
  • Around £540 million in GVA generated during peak construction years.
  • More than 2,200 direct jobs and around 7,500 supply chain jobs supported during construction.
  • Approximately 1,600 jobs created through Building One.
  • Around 4,000 direct jobs across the full facility at full capacity.
  • Hundreds of apprenticeship and skills development opportunities for local people.

While these reports focus on the impact of our UK operations and Somerset facility, they also reflect our wider ambition to help accelerate the transition to cleaner, greener energy. Alongside Somerset, a second facility is under development in Sanand, Gujarat, India.

Together, our UK and India facilities, global innovation hubs and world-class partnerships are helping to build the battery manufacturing capability needed to create a more sustainable future for generations to come.

Commissioned by Agratas, this research has been conducted by Capital Economics using a bespoke model based on Office for National Statistics input-output data, together with Agratas and official labour market, national accounts and household expenditure data. It assesses direct, indirect and induced impacts at local, regional and national levels, with projections over a 25-year period.
