Construction accelerates at our Sanand battery manufacturing facility

Construction at our world-class battery manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat, continues to gather pace. The latest footage from the site reflects this momentum, with the foundation now complete and the structural steel framework nearing completion.

Spanning 320 acres, this facility represents one of the most significant investments in India’s clean energy sector, with a planned annual capacity of 20 GWh in its initial phase. It's a major step towards contributing to India’s clean energy vision and strengthening domestic capability in advanced battery cell manufacturing.

More than 2,000 construction workers and over 700 staff from vendor organisations are currently engaged on-site, driving progress round the clock.

Reflecting on the current phase of development, Anand Sodha, our Vice President – Supply Chain, said:
“The progress at Sanand reflects the dedication and pace of our teams as we bring the Agratas vision to life. Each phase of construction takes us closer to our goal of building one of the most advanced battery manufacturing facilities in the country.”

We’re working closely with two of our group companies, Tata Projects Limited and Tata Consulting Engineers, whose deep expertise in large-scale infrastructure, engineering and programme delivery are helping to bring this strategically important facility to life.

Rahul Sharma, Strategic Business Unit Head – Urban Built Form, Tata Projects, stated:
“Our expertise in delivering large-scale manufacturing projects enables us to construct world-class facilities efficiently, while ensuring sustainable practices are embedded throughout the process.”

Alongside construction, we’re developing a sophisticated and resilient supply chain designed to support the facility at scale. Our state-of-the-art supply chain operations feature an integrated sales and operations planning system that connects demand, supply, and inventory management across imports, exports, and domestic movements.

A dedicated Supply Chain Control Tower is being developed to offer real-time visibility of material flow across regions, supported by environmentally controlled warehouses and specialised storage tanks.

Sharing more on this, Anand Sodha noted:
“Our supply chain is being designed for resilience, visibility, and speed. From automation to sustainable transport, every aspect has been engineered to meet global standards while contributing to India’s clean energy mission. We’re integrating technology and sustainability to ensure efficiency at scale.”

As well as our facility progress, we’re building a talented and diverse team, who are shaping the future of advanced manufacturing. As we continue to grow, we welcome people from varied backgrounds who want to be part of building something meaningful, innovative and impactful.
