Powering ahead: Agratas’ UK battery facility builds momentum in 2025 – with big steps expected in 2026

As 2025 draws to a close, we’re celebrating what a year it has been at the site of our UK battery manufacturing facility in Bridgwater, Somerset.

We’re hugely proud of this year’s construction progress, which has seen us reach 90% completion on the steel frame for Building One – the first phase of our overall facility. The steel work for our central utilities building (the nerve centre that will control data and power supply to the site) is also nearing completion.

Our facility’s floors are taking shape, with multiple mezzanine level and lower-level decks fully formed and ready for the next stage of the build process.

Just northeast of Building One, we’ve carried on developing our surface water drainage systems to take rainwater away from the site. Our largest attenuation basin – a form of drainage - will be able to hold and process 17,000 cubic metres of water at any point in time to prevent flooding.

Earl Wiggins, Vice President Manufacturing Operations, said:
“It’s inspiring to see the facility taking shape and to reflect on what we’ve achieved this year, bringing us ever closer to establishing sustainable, world-class battery production here in Somerset. This project will not only drive innovation and become the largest facility of its kind in the UK, but also create vital new jobs and boost the local economy.
"We’re grateful to our construction delivery partner, Sir Robert McAlpine, to our entire supply chain, and to everyone on site and involved behind the scenes in bringing this mega project to life.”

Looking ahead, 2026 promises to be equally busy - with new temporary offices opening on the site, providing improved space and welfare facilities for our growing team.

Main construction will also begin on a National Grid Electricity Transmission substation early next year. This facility will power the entire site long term and work will take approximately three years to complete.

In the meantime, an interim electricity connection will go live in the spring, allowing us to power Building One and ancillary functions when operations begin.

In the next year, we will ramp up our recruitment efforts for some 1,600 jobs needed to facilitate the production of our battery cells. These include roles in production, maintenance, engineering, and logistics. Keep an eye on our website to register your interest.
